What is the best bait to trap a rodent?

Any task would be a lot easier with a bit of help on the subject. If we are going talk about the best bait to use on traps, (for rodents to be exact), then we could come up with more effective ways to use the trap — even with the simplest, odd looking trapping device there is.

Mouse
Mice would love to see some oatmeals and chocolate waiting by the doorway. The hint of peanut butter on the leftover toasted bread you had for breakfast are also enough to start their day.

• Place the trap properly aligned (next to wall) where the mice are frequently seen. Don't forget to put the bait along the path leading to the trap
• For the big rat, put the baits first and place only the trap after a couple of days
• Wait until the rat keeps on coming back on the same spot before strategically placing the trap

Squirrel
As for the squirrels, the best bait to use is some sunflower seeds, acorns and whole nuts (still in shells).

• Spread the peanut butter over the spring mechanism of the trapping device
• The bigger the squirrel, the bigger the trap you should be using
• Don't put poison on the bait because it is not advisable to kill a squirrel
• If the problem persists, it would be better to contact a wildlife specialist

Vole
Just like rats and squirrels, a vole would eat anything made of peanut. Aside from peanut butter, you can also add slices of fresh fruits like apples, pears and oranges to the bait. The leftover oatmeal would also do the trick.

• Voles (or meadow mice) are usually found outside the house
• These critters dig the soil to have a place to hide
• You will hardly see a vole up in the attic or inside the kitchen
• Vole traps should be placed near the den

Gopher
Gophers feed on fresh vegetables. The best bait to put on a trap (if you don't want to use your homegrown vegetables) is to use the pet food made for rabbits. If you have a pet hamster or a guinea pig, you may use the same. Keep the food moist by adding some water.

• Gophers build their tunnels underground
• The best place to put the trap is underneath the ground
• Use the baits alternatively and try to isolate your pets during the whole process
