Bats are tending to live in large colonies that enabling them to find the right partner in order to mate. The make and the females tend to stay in different spots or locations until they are ready to mate and the mating season begins. Once all the female are pregnant, they will try to find another place, close to the initial colony in order to build their own maternity colony. In this colony, they will protect the young ones and offer support to one another.

Breeding Season

The breeding season for the bats starts during spring when the temperatures are higher. The female bat may find it possible to give birth to 2 or 3 different litters at that time. Every pregnancy will bring out only one litter at a time. The female bat has to be very strong because she has to fly every night to get some food while she is pregnant.

After the young one is born, it will be fed by the mother’s body. The young ones do not have developed wings yet. Once the wings are developed, the young ones will start searching for their own food. After that, they will try to find the initial colony and live there on their own.

Independent Babies

The bat babies will not take much to try and live on their own. They can be completely independent from 6 weeks of age. This is why the female bat can make more than one pregnancy into one individual breeding season. During these first weeks, the baby bat will hang from the furry belly of their mother.

This is the place they will use to sleep and eat. The warmth from the bat mother will keep the baby warm. The female bat is actually a very clever animal, and she will carefully choose the time to reproduce when the food supplies will be sufficient enough.

The female bat will make sure that she can offer to her babies the best possible chances to survive and live long, healthy lives.

Mating in the Fall

Bats’ reproducing period can be quite slow, so the mating season can actually take place during fall. The female bat can keep the sperm inside her body and not release it through the eggs until the circumstances can be ideal.

Bats are considered to be a few of the slowest mating animals in the world. This is why environmentalists are highly concerned when people kill their habitants by many. Along with the white nose syndrome, a disease that is caused to bats, their numbers are often very dangerously low.

In the right conditions, a bat can live for up to 20 years while other species can live even longer. If humans would be more careful and tried to preserve the bat environment, then bats would be extremely safe, and their population would increase.
